Call to Action Tuesday, May 6 Municipal Palace

May 02, 2008

On January 21 our community of Los Zacatitos presented ourselves to the Municipal President Luis Armando Diaz along with the Ecological department and Servicios Publicos with our concerns of the Palo Escopeta landfill burning, producing toxic smoke, unfit for our families to breathe. In this meeting we were introduced to Ecofenix as a solution to the recycling and an opening date that has since past.

On Tuesday May 6th, we will be accompanied by Gabriel Olvera of the Ecological Department to set up an appointment with the newly elected Municipal President Rene Nunez. Mothers, students and teachers from the kinder in La Playita will be there to express their concern. This is an opportunity to show how many of us are affected by the Palo Escopta landfill which continues to contaminate our air with toxic smoke, the latest burn on April 25th 2008. Together we can encourage the importance of introducing a recycling system here in San Jose del Cabo reducing the amount of waste going to the landfill. Leading by example, we can join our efforts throughout San Jose. Here in Los Zacatitos the recycle program has been successfully collecting and transporting recyclables every Saturday since February 2nd. An environmental group has been established in San Jose meeting at Raices Y Brazos, creating a green directory for Los Cabos. We are all working together for a better future for our children.

The Municipal Palace is located in the center of San Jose. The best place to park is on the new road behind the tropicana. Please let as many people as possible know...the more that show up the stronger we are. TV AZTECA will be there to film.
