12:30 a.m. Tuesday morning, October 14, 2008
Zacatitos residents were again exposed to toxic smoke coming from the Los Cabos municipal trash dump. A thick cloud covered the entire community.
At dawn a Zacatitos resident contacted the municipality dump manager and advised him of the situation. The dump manager immediately contacted the head of public services who dispatched several new water trucks and heavy equipment to extinguish the fire. While it appears no new measures such as security at the site of the dump have been implemented, the municipality is responding much quicker and more efficiently than ever before. As of Tuesday afternoon the fire was extinguished.
